This week we had our second session of AFL training. AFL means Australian Football League.
First coach Andre told us to practise the two skills we learnt two weeks ago. We practise the skill handball and the skill drop punt.To pass the ball one of your hands will hold the ball like a dinner plate and with the other hand make a fist. You then hit the ball with your hand that makes a fist. To drop punt you have make an m shape with your hands. Then he told us to put the laces away from your face so if your wearing bare feet it could hurt. Then you kick the ball to your partner.
After that we learnt a new technique called ruck. The ruck technique uses the tip off from the NBA. Andrea said that at the start of the game someone will throw up the ball and the two people will try and hit the ball to the ground. The teams will pick the tallest person to try and win the ruck or the tip off.
Lastly I learnt how to tackle in AFL. He said to takle where your hips are because if you tackle at their head or their legs thats a penalty. We then practise tackleing in partners.
I need to work on punting because when we were playing the punt the ball to your teachers game I missed all my attempts.
