HPE

We did balancing using table tennis equipment.

First, Mr Ogilvie showed us how to hold the table tennis bat properly. To hold the bat we have to pretend to give a handshake then have a gun sign. 

Next he told us 2 skills. They were forhand and backhand. We then did a compitition about how could bounce the ball on the bat the most. I got 35

Lastly we practise doing a dropserve. I had to bounce the ball on my side and hit it over the net to the oppenet's side. Then we used the skills into a game called chanlengers vs he champions.

I enjoyed this task because I beat the champion 3 times. 



Maori

We did revistion about all the things we did during the term. 

First we played a memory game that involved saying the words of the cards. 

Then I answered questions in Maori. I used the Maori dictionary to help. Some of the questions were: ko wai to hoa? Which means who is your friend. 

I enjoyed this task because I answered all the questions and got them all correct.

Strawberries

 We did 3 introductional sentences. 

My first introduction was a basis fact. A basic fact is something that is true. Strawberries are a type of fruit. To grow them people need seeds, sunlight, water, and a pot. 

My next Introduction was a question hook. A quesiton hook is trying to get the reader to read the text. Did you know that in strawberries there are 200 seeds? Sunlight ,water, soil, and a pot helps grow the strawberries.

My last introduction was a explain emotion. Explain emotion is like trying to get the reader to get an emtional feeling while reading. Strawberries are tasty treats that people eat. To grow strawberries people need seeds, soil, sunlight, water, and a pot.



KillerQuakes

 We used skimming and scanning on a book called killerquakes. 

The book killerquakes is about what earthquakes do. It also talks about the how do scientist measure an earthquake.  

We used skimming and scanning to aplied the ideas into our table mat.Skimming is going thrugh the text looking at the keywords. Scanning is being like an helicopter, focusing the main text. 

Then I recored my ideas onto a table mat. Then I put my facts into chronlogy. I used scanning to look for my ideas because I had to stop and think about what fact I was putting on. 

 I enjoyed this task because we did more learning into chronlogy and skiming and scanning.

Measurement

 We did length on objects around our class.

First we took photos of objects around our classroom. Then we measurments them with long rulers. 

Then we started measuring the objects. We measured a bag storage, 2 sqares, 1 tropizam table, and a totetray.  

I enjoyed this task because we did more learning about measurment. 



TImeline

 I did a timeline about how long does it take to recycle paper? 

I first looked at my book for imformation. I used skiming and scanning to find my imformation. I then put the information in chronological order on a google slide. 

Then we created a timeline. My imformation was recycled, recovery centre, the paper mill, and a product. Then I wrote statements about my imformation and adding images on to match my statements. 

I enjoyed this acivity because I now know the process of recycling.

Basic Facts Boxes

 I compted my basic facts up to 20 subtraction. 

I got 100/100 and my time was 4 minutes and I got 16 seconds. 

Next time do this task I will go up a level. 



Balancing | Fisbree Acivitys

 We did frisbee activities based on balancing.

First, we practised some skills using balancing techniques. We had to throw the frisbee to our partners. 

Then we did a fetch activity. We had to say go and our partner had to go and catch the frisbee and land on the yellow line. 

After that we did a activity using balancing techniques. We had to jump, catch the frisbee then shoot it into the goal. 

Lastly we played a gamae using teamwork and all the skills we learnt. 

I need to work on my balancing because I was throwing the frisbee facing the wrong way. 

Preposition

We continuted with prepositions. 

First we carried on with last week's work. We had to translate maori fruit and items  and put them into sentences saying where is it. For example: Kea hea te aporo, Kei roto i te peke. 

Then we matched the sentences with images. We matched kei roto i te peke with an apple in an bag. 

I enjoyed this activity because I was able to complete the work.

SSR Selfie | 100 scientist who made history

This week I read a non-fiction book called 100 scientists who made history by Andrea mills and Stella Caldwell. 

I read pages 11 of the book.  I read one page about Aristotle,I learnt he had a stutter that caused him to have speaking problems. Aristotle made mistakes and he thought that planet earth did not move.  

I then read a page that told me that Greek were the first thinkers who laid the foundations for future scientists. 

I really enjoyed the book because I learnt lots of new facts about scientist.

Inquiry

 We were markting about toys. 

First we looked at a design from Mr Wong, his design was a party popper. He then told us to make a plan about a party poper.

Next, we listed the parts of the design. Our market was gamers. The parts were plastic cup, rubber bands, folded paper, confitti, and a tooth pick. 

We then did the updated design. This was about the changes. Our group changed the cup into a bigger cup, the paper into cardboard, the confitti into a bigger confitii, and the tooth pick is the same. 

Lastly did the rational. We had to give the reason in why we chose it. We did the rational about our updated designs.

I enjoyed this task because my group and I were able to completed this task.

Basic Facts Boxes

 I completed a can-do activity called basic facts boxes. 

I got 100/100 and my time was 5 minutes and 8 seconds. 

Next time I do this task I will go up a level and will try to improve my time. 



The three basic turns

There are three basic turns. They are one quarter turn clockwise (tcw1/4t) a half turn, one quarter turn anti clockwise (tacw1/4t), and a full turn.

During our HPE session group B was not able to follow them because everyone was not following the instructions,  and doing things we weren't surpose to do. 

 

Sentences

We learnt how to make sentences in Maori.  

We first went down with whaea Odie to revise matoa and maui. Maui means left and matau means right. 

Then we wrote sentences about food and the location. For example: Kea hea te aporo? Kei roto i te peke. This means where is the apple? It is inside the bag. 

I enjoyed this task because I got all my answers correct.

SSR Selfie

I read a non-fiction book called ANZAC day. 

I read 4 pages of the book. The main topic was about anzac day, the invasion, and the meaning of anzac. 

I enjoyed reading this book because I found more imformation about ANZAC day.  



Explanation Topic Planner

 I did an explanation topic planner. I did 2 different topics. 

My first topic is about how bread is made. We had to put in the 3 or 4 mechinisims, the cause and effect and where we got the information. In my mechinisims I put, ingredients, mixing, rising, and baking. My cause and effect was To make bread people need the ingredients. 

My next topic is about how strawberries grow. My mechinisims were seeds, sunlight, water, and a pot for seeds. My cause and effect was to grow strawberries people need seeds. 

This was hard because I couldn't think of the information sources. 



Table Mat Information

We used skimming and scanning to record the ideas on task called table mat information.

First, our group read a book called the piece of paper path. It talks recycling paper and how recycling in important. We used skimming and scanning on the books.  Skimmming means to be like an airplane. You rush down the page looking for keywords. Scanning is like an helicoptor, you can stop and hover focusing on the piece of text.  

Next, we did the table mat activity. We had to find keywords and define 1 of them. we then switched chrome books with eachother and checked our work.

Lastly we did the what I would ask and the key questions. Key questions are questions the author thought about before writing the book. 

I enjoyed this activty because I used skimming and scaning to find imformation.

Vollyball Interschool

 Yesterday some people from LS1 went to vollyball interschool at Selwyn college. 

We had 5 games against Stonefields, Panmure District, Glenbrae, Bailey Road, and Tamaki primary. 

Our first game was Tamaki Primary. It was a good game, I kept on digging the ball out instead of digging over the net. Our team won. 

Then we vs Panmure District. It was a chalenging game. We also won. I needed to work on my catching because most of the times I was dropping the ball.


After that we played against Stonefields. We won this game. A lot of times I was not focusing on the game.



Afterwards we played against Glenbrare. We won this game. This game was fun because I assisted my teammate with an spike. 



Lastly we played Bailey Road. We won this game. This game was fun because everyone got to touch the ball. 


I enjoyed this vollyball interschool because we were undefeated and were able to share the ball with everyone in our team. Next time we do vollyball I will practise with catching and digging.

SSR Selfie

  I read a book called ghosts from Raina Telgemeier. 

I read 22 pages of the book. In the beginning of the story there are 4 characters, Maya, Cat, and their mum and dad. They are at a food store ordering food. Maya and Cat both ask if they are gonna be any food stores at their new town. They're moving to the new town because of their dad's new work. 

Another page I read was about Maya and Cat taking a walk to the beach. Cat ends up walking back home with Maya because it was to cold. 

I enjoyed reading this book because Maya makes good decisions.  



Balance | HPE

We did balancing activitys with 5 differnt equipment.

We did a volleyball activty. I had to balanced on 1 leg while trying to dig or set. I found this activity hard because while I was doing a set my leg was coming down. 

We then did a tennis activity. I had to balance on 1 leg and hit the ball sofly to my partner. I found this activity easy because I was able to hit the ball without losing my balance. 



After that we did a hockey stick activity. I had to balance on 1 leg and try and hit the ball back to my partner. I found this activity hard because my partner was trying to make make me lose my balance.

Afterwards we did a egg and spoon activity. We had to balance on 1 leg, and 1 arm trying to hit the spoon on the floor and bringing it back up. I found this activity hard because when I was coming up I was losing my balance. 

   







Lastly we did a soccer activity. We had to try and balance the ball for a amount of time on a head or hitting the ball on our knees. I found this activty hard because I was dropping the ball stright onto my knee, and I was struggleing with keeping the ball on my head. 




Questions

 We learnt how to ask questions about where things are (preposition) 

We first learned some prepositions using sticks. The prepositions were runga (up), raro (down), matou(right), and maui (left).

We used preposition to find the scissors on a image. It was on the left of the image. We then had to define it in Maori. "Kei te taha maui ki te pepa" 

Next time I wil practise maui and matou because I was getting confused with matou.

Mechanisms

 Did you know that cacao beans can survive 200 years, and fireworks are seen in royal weddings.

 People light the fuse to make the fireworks ignite. We then added casual language. WHEN people light the fuse it makes the gunpowder ignite.


Cacao has a bitter taste, which is why they add sugar. Milk chocolate is the most popular cacao product which has milk added. Chocolate is a popular cacao product THEREFORE people buy it and eat it for enjoyment

Reciprocal Reading

 We used reciprocal reading on What we lost. 

The PDF was about how many people died and the effects of war. 

While reading, the summariser role was important because it summarised the sections we'vd missed and reminded us of some of the detail.

I enjoyed doing reciprocal reading because my favurite role was summariser. 



Next we did reciprocal reading on Where we live. This text talks about a Lady liverpool inspired women and children throughout NZ to sew shirts and pyjamas.

The most inportant role was clarfier because it identifys the words we don't know.
