Fact and Opinion | Reading

I completed a task called fact and opinion.

The class listened to the story The Highway Rat and then we did a character study on 2 different characters from the story.

I wrote in facts about the duck from the story. Then I wrote in my opinion on the fact. After that I wrote adjectives about the character's personaliy.

One of the facts I wrote down was that the duck tried to defend heself from the highway rat, and my opinion was the duck tried to take her cupcake from the rat. A fact is something that can be proven true, and a opinoin is all your thoughts about that thing.

I need to work on my adjectives because a lot of times I was writing verbs instead of adjectives.

SSR Selfie | Diary Of the Wimpy Kid

I read 23 pages of the book diary of the wimpy kid by Jeff Kinney.

In the story diary of the wimpy kid, Greg, Rodrick and his family were the main characters. In one of the pages Greg always hated getting picked by him because he wasn't allowed in the front, so he prayed everytime he was at the back because of Rodrick's drum sitcks.

I liked Greg in the book because he always descibe everthing in his day.

America's Cup

I learnt about the America's Cup.

First, I read some imformation about the America's Cup, I then sorted the information in to the what, where, why, and when boxes. This is also known as the main ideas. I learnt that the first race took place at the island of Wight in England so I put in the where.

Next, I did some summarising. I wrote down 20 most important words from the main ideas. I then reduced these to 6 words. I then used the 6 words to write my summary sencentences.

Lastly, I did some evaluating. I needed to write down the facts that I had learnt. I then needed to think of questions or ideas I am still interested in or want to find out more information about.

Using these 3 stratagies can be helpful because summarising and evaulvating can help with understanding many texts or sources of information at once. So you can then show how much you understand the larger topic.

Prototec

I tested my maths knowledge on an website called Prototec.

I did stage 4. I got 57/60 questions right. I then recoreded my results on a Google Silde.

Next time I do this task I will try a new level like stage 6 and try and get a faster time.

The Highway Rat

Visualistion is a reading strategy to try and get the image inside of your head.

The story was about the highway rat. The highway rat is a rat that steals food from diffierent animals like a rabbit and a squirrel. The duck had an idea, so she tricked him into an echoey cave. The duck quickly went on the highway rat's horse and ran to her friends and shared all the food that was in the horse's saddle.

My visualation looks different to hector's one because he already knew the story but I didn't so I used the visualation stratagy to get images in my head.

AFL Trianing

This week we had our second session of AFL training. AFL means Australian Football League.

First coach Andre told us to practise the two skills we learnt two weeks ago. We practise the skill handball and the skill drop punt.To pass the ball one of your hands will hold the ball like a dinner plate and with the other hand make a fist. You then hit the ball with your hand that makes a fist. To drop punt you have make an m shape with your hands. Then he told us to put the laces away from your face so if your wearing bare feet it could hurt. Then you kick the ball to your partner.

After that we learnt a new technique called ruck. The ruck technique uses the tip off from the NBA. Andrea said that at the start of the game someone will throw up the ball and the two people will try and hit the ball to the ground. The teams will pick the tallest person to try and win the ruck or the tip off.

Lastly I learnt how to tackle in AFL. He said to takle where your hips are because if you tackle at their head or their legs thats a penalty. We then practise tackleing in partners.

I need to work on punting because when we were playing the punt the ball to your teachers game I missed all my attempts.

Reading Large Numbers

Place value is a system that groups numbers based on their size.

The position of a digit determins its value. When we say numbers we group them within the same house. For example 15709 has fiftheeen thousands, seven hundreds and nine ones.

Understaning our base 10 place value system allows us to pronounce big numbers porperly. It also allows us to identify numbers before and after.

LI: to read numbers larger than 999.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is Maori tern for a formal greeting.

The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place. The Maunga (mountain), Awa (river), and Iwi (tribe) are generally used.

He first said to make a m shape with your hands. Then he told to put the laces away from your face so if your wearing bare feet it could hurt.

After that we played a game called octopus and used the passing skill in the game. To get someone out was to use technique.
