Comment thread

Today Oscar commented on my rounding blog post.

The first question that Oscar asked me was "The next time you do this will you use this idea to improve your time?"

I then replied to him and said "
Hello Oscar,
Thanks for the positive feedback! I will apply this idea the next time I do this challenge. What other ideas do you have that could shorten my time?"

Basic Facts Boxes

Today I did the basic facts boxes challenge. I did the speed demon challenge up to 5. The time I got was 3 minutes and 4 secounds.  I skipped one answer but I got the rest of the questions correct.

SSR Selfie

Today I completed SSR Selfie. The purpose of SSR Selfie is to learn how to summarise or retell a text.

The book I read was gruffalo. The book was funny because the mouse was tricking animals so he donest get eaten.

Art Collaboration

For art we have used our colouring techniques using pastel to recreate the Gruffalo cover.

First, my group was given pieces of paper to practice our blending. After that, my group talked about blending the important pieces. Blending makes colours go darker or lighter. Blending can also create dark and light colours.

After that my group collaborated with other groups to ask how  they made that colour.

Maths | Rounding

Rounding is a math strategy that uses addition & division strategies. Rounding means making a number easier but keeping its value close to what it was. The answer is less detailed, but easier to use.
Addition and division are both operations that are used for rounding. To round, the person needs to find the mean, to find the mean get a set of numbers like 5,7,1,9,3 and then add them altogether which would make 25. Then divide them by the amount of numbers there are which makes 5.

Rounding can help people get better at adding and dividing. Also at understanding how to round numbers in to 1 decimal place.

Saturday Routine | Writing

This week for writing we wrote a recount about our daily routine. We picked a day about what were we writing about. I was writing about my normal Saturday routine.

First I planed what to write about my recount. I noted down all the events that happend in my day. When I'm done noting things that happend in my day, I go on to another event.

After that I wrote my recount about my normal Saturday routine. Some of the things I did were: Playing games, and have breakfast.

Once when I'm done I do my ending. My ending is about how I felt.

Saftey Plan

For inquiry we checked out the hazards, risk, and consequences that could happen during making a fire and smores.

First, we discussed different hazards and risks. Next we wrote it down. A hazard for the fire is the fire itself and the consequences are getting burnt.

Then, we discussed some consequences that could happen. Consequences can be how can we prevent it, whose responsibility is it, and the emergency plan.

Mr Ogilvie lit up the fire and then demonstrated how to roast the marshmallows. After he demonstrated we made our own smores.

After, we made another safety plan for making the smores with the fire. We repeated the same process but wrote down different hazards, risks and consequences. Then we made smores.

Governing Topics

Governing  are things parites want to provide for their country and people . The two inportant topics to me are: Education and Heatlh.

The education topic talks about: learning new topics.

The Heatlh topic talks about: Being heatlhy and keeping your body fit.

Education is a inportant topic because I am a student learning new things. I think healh is a good topic because it's good to stay healthy and fit.

LI: To choose important governing topics by summarising all topics.

The gruffalo rewrite

Rewriting is when you take a small part of the story and change with your own ideas.

To rewrite a part pick a character you are changing. Tell where do they live, what's their favorite food and where is the setting. I was rewriting the mouse in the Story of The Gruffalo.

Making connections

LI- To identfiy and descibe connections

Connections are things that are simular and relate to text to tex, text to self and text to world.

Text to text is relateing one text to another text. For example: The gruffalo and the legend of Rahi.

Text to self is something simuar that has happend in the text and to you. For example: Little red riding hood. I relate to the text because I like visting my grandma.

Text to world is something that relates to something else in the world. For example: Goldilocks and the tree bears. The world relates to this because heaps of people don't care about others property and things.

These 3 things help the readers to understand what they are reading.

Kapa Haka | Learning the haka

On Wednesday afternoon the boys from kapa haka went to the hall for practise. Two teachers from a kapa haka group came to teach us a haka. Their names were Matua Kingi and Matua Haven. The haka we are learning is about a man called Te Rauparaha. The part I liked the most about Matua Haven and Matua Kingi was when they helped the juniors who were struggling with the haka and the pukana. I thought it was fun when we had a pukana challenge, we had to grab a partner and on three we both did a pukana. The goal was NOT to laugh, if you laughed, you were out.

The story of Te rauparaha.
Te rauparaha was a Māori rangatira and war leader of the Ngāti Toa tribe who took a leading part in the Musket Wars. He was on the run because he killed many people and people wanted to kill him. While he was running he saw this lady in her garden planting kumara in her pit. This lady had hairy legs. Te Rauparaha asked the lady if he could hide in the pit, she agreed so he went inside and the lady covered it and sat down on the pit. When the 2 men who was trying to kill him came, they asked the lady " Hey! where's Te Rauparaha" The lady said " I don't know" so the two men left. After they left Te Rauparaha got up and said " HAHAHA you suckers" Ka Mate! ka mate!Ka Ora! ka ora!Ka ora, ka ora! Tēnei te tangata pūhuruhuru nāna nei i tiki mai whakawhiti te rā!” Upane, kaupane” Whiti te rā! Hi!”. And then Te Rauparaha was safe.

Fact and opinoin | Reading

For reading I learnt about fact and opinion.

For this activity, I used prior knowledge and inferring to build up fact and opinion.

First we talked about what fact and opinion is. Fact is what really happend in the story and opinoin is the inference we make with my facts.

A character trait is describing someone's personality.
For example: Taua is sporty

I understand that to get an opinoin I have to use the clues and keywords.

Setting Desciption

A setting description is what is smells like, looks like, feels like, and sounds like.

To descibe what a place sounds like, People use adjectives like: Loud, quiet, and noisey. This gives us an idea of what the place sounds like.

To descibe what a place feels like. People use adjectives like: Rough trees, cold, and damp. This gives us an idea of what the place feels like.

When descibeing what a place looks like,People use adjectives like: isolated, scary, and dark. These adjectives give us an idea of what the place looks like.

When descibeing what a place smells like. People use adjectives like: Revolting and dead grass.
These adjectives give us an idea of what the place smells like.

The 4 sences help the readers understanding on the setting you're desciribing.

Risk Assment quiz |

This week we were learning about hazards and risk.

First we had to give each situation a number that relates to low, likely, possible, elevated, extreme risk.

Second we wrote consequences to go with the situatioan. Consequences are something that results from the situasituation.
Our group discuss the risk if it was low, likely, or extreme risk.t
LI: to assess the likelihood

Time | Maths

Time is a continuous sequence of events.

The median is found by organizing a set of numbers from least to greastest and finding the number that falls in the middle, but if there is an even set of numbers, the two numbers are added and then divided by 2. For example: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. The median would be 7.

The mean is found by adding a set of numbers together then dividing the total by how many numbers there are. For example: 7+8+9= 24. 24 divided by 3 is 8. The mean would be 8.

The mode is found by organizing the set of numbers from least to greatest and then finding the number that appears the most. For example: 5, 6, 7, 7, 8. The mode is 7 because 7 appears the most times in the number set.

LI- To investigate units of time.
